Vanity is not just the ego telling itself how good it looks, it's anything which is 'in vain' or a waste of time and energy. Pride causes us to behave in all sorts of silly ways, always to our own detriment and frequently to the detriment of others.
The solution? Love. By choosing what is the most loving action in the moment - to yourself and others - you end up surrendering all vanity and pride. If you do this holistically in your life, then the Spirit of Life itself flows to you - divine grace.
You may begin to experience this as 'being in the flow', fortuitious coincidences and favourable circumstances (good luck). A helping hand from Life in return for your positive efforts.
This is a very real and tangible effect, but it can only be known through the experiencing of it.
